Group Fasting — Fasting With Friends and Strangers
How to start a group fast, invite friends, join a public fast, and what you can do together while fasting.
Why fast with others?
Research consistently shows that social accountability improves adherence to health behaviors. When someone else knows you are fasting — and is fasting alongside you — you are less likely to break early. Fasting Pals is built around this idea. Your fasting buddies see your timer, you see theirs, and you can cheer each other on in the built-in chat.
Starting a group fast
Tap the blue + button and choose Group Fast. Set your duration, fast type, and whether the fast is public or private. Public fasts appear on the Fasts browse page for anyone to join. Private fasts generate a unique invite code — share that code with the people you want to fast with.
Joining someone else's fast
Tap Fasts in the bottom navigation to browse public fasts that are active or starting soon. You can join any public fast with one tap. To join a private fast, tap the + button, choose Join with Code, and enter the invite code your friend shared with you.
The buddy chat
Once you are in a fast with at least one other person, a chat window appears on your home screen below the timer. Use it to encourage each other, share how you are feeling, or just pass the time. Messages are tied to the fast — the chat stays active for the duration of the fast.
Seeing who is in your fast
Tap the Buddies box in the stats row below your timer to see everyone currently in your fast. The creator of the fast can also remove participants from this screen if needed.
Friends vs. fast participants
Friends and fast participants are two separate things. You can fast with someone without being friends, and you can be friends with someone without fasting together. The Friends section (accessible from the bottom nav) is for adding people you want to stay connected with long-term — you can send them direct messages, see when they start new fasts, and get notified when they invite you to a group fast.
