Starting Your First Fast
Step-by-step guide to starting a solo fast or a group fast in the app, and what all the options mean.
Tap the blue + button
The blue plus button in the center of the bottom navigation bar opens the Start Fast screen. This is how you start any fast — solo or with others.
Solo vs. group fast
You can start a Solo Fast just for yourself, or a Group Fast that others can join. Solo fasts are private by default. Group fasts can be public (anyone can see and join them from the Fasts page) or private (only people with your invite code can join). If you are fasting with specific friends, start a private group fast and share the invite code with them.
Choosing a duration
Select how many hours you want to fast. Common options are 16 hours (a standard 16:8 intermittent fast), 18 hours, 20 hours, or 24 hours. You can also set a custom duration. If you are new to fasting, 16 hours is a good starting point — it usually means skipping breakfast and eating your first meal at lunch.
Choosing a fast type
Fast type refers to what you are allowing yourself to consume during the fast. Water Only is the strictest option. Water & Coffee allows plain black coffee and tea. Zero Calorie allows any zero-calorie drink. Custom lets you write in your own rules. This does not change your points or timer — it is just a label to keep you accountable.
Scheduling for later
You can schedule a fast to start at a future time rather than immediately. This is useful for coordinating a group fast with friends across different time zones, or for planning your week in advance. Scheduled fasts appear on the home screen with a countdown to the start time.
Recurring fasts
If you follow a consistent fasting schedule like 16:8 every day, you can set up a recurring fast. This automatically alternates between your fasting window and your eating window without you having to start a new fast each day. You can pause, resume, or stop a recurring schedule from the Settings or from your Home screen.
